Privacy notice · version 2026-10-draft
How WAY looks after your information
Working draft. This notice describes how the app is built. It needs review by a qualified legal professional, and the business details below need completing, before WAY is offered to the public.
What we collect
- Your name (as you want your partner to see it), email address and password (stored securely by our login provider; we never see it).
- Your confirmation that you're 18 or older, and when you accepted this notice.
- Who you're paired with, and when.
- Your answers to each check-in, when you gave them, and whether you chose to share them.
- If you use WAY to Connect: how meaningful you find five expressions of care (optional), which of these you share with your partner, any practical preferences you set (time, budget, where you like to spend time), and your responses to the ideas suggested to you.
We don't collect your location, contacts, date of birth or payment details. We don't use advertising trackers.
Why we collect it
Only to run WAY for you: to let you check in privately, share with your partner when you both agree, and look back over time. We don't sell your information or use your answers for advertising.
Who can see your answers
- While you're answering, only you.
- Your partner sees your answers only if you both finish and both choose to share. If either of you keeps a check-in private, neither of you sees the other's answers.
- If either of you leaves the pairing, you both lose access to each other's answers. You keep your own.
- Before finishing a check-in, you can keep individual answers private. Your partner never sees those, and they aren't used in anything you both see.
- Your WAY to Connect ratings are private unless you choose to share each one with your current partner, and sharing ends if the pairing ends. Your practical preferences and your responses to suggested ideas are only ever visible to you.
- WAY to Connect's ideas are chosen by fixed rules from a written list. Nothing about you is sent to AI services.
- These rules are enforced by the database itself, not only by the screens you see.
Where it's stored
Your information is stored by our database provider, Supabase. [To complete before launch: the hosting region chosen, and the safeguards in place if information is stored outside South Africa.]
How long we keep it
Until you delete your account. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, your pairings and all of your answers.
Your rights
Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), and similar laws elsewhere, you can:
- see the information we hold about you (Settings → Download my data);
- correct it (Settings → Your name);
- delete it (Settings → Delete my account);
- object to how it's used, or complain to us or to the Information Regulator.
